Starting at Hugh’s Restaurant in Burnside, we head out to through Spittal and Croftfoot. There then follows what is potentially a busy section of the route – along Menock Road and Manse Brae to Cathcart. We follow mainly recognised cycle routes, which include some minor roads, to Pollok Park. At Pollok House we join NCNs 7 / 75 and follow them to skirt round Paisley, past Paisley Canal station, go through Elderslie (which requires a short distance on the main road) and on to the exit for Johnstone where we head to the café. On the return, we cut off to Linwood and follow mainly recognised cycle routes through Ferguslie Park, skirt around Paisley and on to the Renfrew Bridge – provided it is open. We follow NCN 7 into Glasgow and cross the Squiggly Bridge to eventually reach Victoria Road. The final stage takes us to Polmadie, Toryglen and Rutherglen using recognised cycling routes.
Please be aware that we aim for an average speed on the move of 10 – 11 mph. This is not the route for you if you are looking for a much faster road ride.

I describe this as a leisure ride. It tries to avoid busy roads and make use of cycle paths as much as possible. We leave and finish at Hugh’s Restaurant, 270 Stonelaw Road in Burnside. The route takes us out to Johnstone, going through Pollok Park and Paisley. The return route is through Linwood to the Renfrew Bridge and back into Glasgow. You can view the route in detail at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51586360

The route follows mainly roads identified as a cycle route or on quiet roads to Pollok Park where we join NCN 75 to Johnstone. On the return, we head for Linwood, skirt Paisley and cross the Renfrew Bridge. This uses many sections identified as cycle roads but not all use segregated paths. NCN 7 takes us to Glasgow. We return to Burnside through Polmadie, Toryglen and Rutherglen. The route is classified as paved for virtually all its length.

The ride heads out to Johnstone where we will stop at the Callans Community Café which has toilets, good refreshments, and it is very friendly. Please note that although they will take cards, they prefer cash. If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers welcome but please check the anticipated cycle speed.
