Starting point

Lanarkshire
G73 3SB

Starting at the Hugh’s Restaurant on Stonelaw Road in Burnside, we follow NCN 756 out through Rutherglen to join NCN 75 beside the Clyde before Glasgow Green. We follow that until we join NCN 7 out to Bowling joining the Forth and Clyde Canal towpath at Clydebank. We’ll have a break at the café at Bowling before returning. This route assumes a return along the same route but there are a number of variations which we can take if the group would like. This could increase the ride distance from 32 miles to 36 miles.
Please be aware that this is a Steady ride which uses mainly shared paths. The average speed on the move will be about 10mph or the speed of the slowest. This is not the route for you if you are looking for a fast road ride.

I describe this route as a leisure ride. It tries to avoid roads and makes use of cycle paths as much as possible. It takes us out to Bowling on the Forth and Clyde Canal. This plan takes us back the same way. However, there are a number of options which are longer if the group wishes to follow one of them instead.

Wherever possible, the route follows the National Cycle Network, much of which is shared paths. The route is classified as paved for most of its length. There will be some cycling on roads but I have kept them to a minimum.

The ride heads out to the end of the Forth and Clyde Canal where we will stop at the café which has toilets. https://www.facebook.com/p/Patons-Place-100043279343171/ If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. It’s looking good at the moment – there may even be a need for sun block! One of the alternative return routes would take us across the Renfrew Ferry which requires cash if you all choose to go back that way.

First-timers welcome!
