Cadence Performance Centre, 2A Anerley Hill, Bromley.
A couple of years ago a Wandle Wander ride took place, which went from Lewisham via Clapham Common and the River Wandle to Morden Hall Park. We will be doing a similar ride, but this time we will go round in a clockwise direction and we will start the ride from Crystal Palace, where we will be joined by cyclists cycling up the hill from Burgess Park in Southwark..
The River Wandle was once one of the most heavily industrialised small rivers in Britain. But the industry has now gone and it has been restored to its natural state and is home to the famous brown trout and wild birds. Unlike so many of the other tributaries of the Thames, the River Wandle does not disappear into culverts.
This ride is part of a series of social cycle rides planned for the 1st Saturday of each month where we explore the boroughs that surround Southwark. They typically take up to 8 hours, including time for a refreshment break. They are organised by the Cycling UK affiliated group Cyclists in Southwark.
We will meet for this ride at the Cadence Performance Centre, 2A Anerley Hill, Bromley at 11.30am. We start off by making our way to Westow Park and cycle through our neighbouring borough Croydon to Morden Hall Park. We will stop at the cafe there for lunch. We then cycle to our neighbouring borough Southwark by following the course of the River Wandle to its mouth at the Thames. We then pass through Battersea Park and CS5, which takes us to Burgess Park where our ride finishes..
