The cycle ride is about 38 miles. It is an enjoyable cycle ride with a mixture of challenges including a steady climb from Newburn to the top of Throckley Fell. There is some off road cycling but mainly on quiet roads.
We will leave pedalling Squares and cycle on the south side of the river Tyne to Newburn Bridge. Cross over the bridge to Newburn. There is a steady climb through Newburn to the top of Throckley Fell and then to Stamfordham and Matfen. Stop at Matfen Village Store/cafe for coffee, tea and a snack etc.
Return to Pedalling Squares towards Corbridge but turn off 2 miles short of East of Corbridge and return then on a lovely downward stretch to Bywell. Travel through Wyalm and then back along the river.
This ride is suitable for any bike and everyone is welcome on this no drop ride, however please make sure your bike is in good working order and you are carrying spare inner tubes as punctures are a problem at this time of year.
