Let me take you on a journey which spans nearly 11 miles of the Unesco World Heritage site. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is described as one of the greatest gifts of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century.
This engineering masterpiece created by Thomas Telford was named a World Heritage Site in 2009. The 11 miles starts in Chirk and then continues to Llangollen and the famous horseshoe falls.

This route starts in Chirk where we will pick up the canal at Pentre and come off in Froncysyllte where we will ride down to the Bont where we will see the Aqueduct from across the river.

We will rejoin the canal at Trevor and stay on until we get to the Horseshoe falls which is a beautiful picturesque waterfall another gem part of this world heritage site.

There will be an opportunity to take photos we will even be able to see Dinas Bran castle on our journey.
From the falls we will head back to Llangollen Wharf and stop at the cafe there for cuppa. From Llangollen we will head back to Trevor and there will be an opportunity from here to walk over the aqueduct to experience more glorious views. For this section we will have to dismount and if anyone doesn’t feel comfortable or doesn’t want to walk on the aqueduct there is a diversion we can take to take us back to Pentre.

From Pentre we will head back to Chirk via the Marina and castle lanes heading back to our start point.

A lovely ride which incorporates one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites taking in Thomas Telfords Aqueduct and the Horseshoe falls.

The route mainly consists of the Llangollen canal and towpath with a few quiet lanes.

Helmets are mandatory. Please also bring a spare inner tube and tools. Please also bring a drink and or snack. Please also bring cash or card if you wish to purchase anything from the cafe.

First-timers welcome!
