Breeze the Tyne Tunnel and Ferry

Come celebrate the re-opening of the long awaited re-furbished Tyne cycle and pedestrian tunnel and re-kindle some childhood Tyne ferry fun by joining us for a late summer (well, could be early autumn) jaunt along both banks of the Tyne.

We’ll be starting from The Fish Quay at North Shields and pedalling initially upstream along the north bank to the tunnel. On crossing the river we’ll pass through Jarrow to ride down river and arrive at South Shields for the ferry back to North Shields. By the time we’re back at North Shields I’ll be ready for a cuppa if anyone fancies it.

The ride is most suitable for hybrid bikes as it is an urban ride using off road cycle paths, ones alongside roads and on roads. It’s all tarmac/paved however any bike should manage it.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. We should be riding for about 21/2 hours (note that if the tunnel escalators haven’t opened we might take a while using the lifts) plus time for a cuppa after.

As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off.

You should receive a notification by email if there is a message. If you have not heard from us we are still riding.
