Join us for this short ride which is part of our weekly summer series of Thursday evening starter rides in the Durham area during May, June and July. These rides are suitable for those new or returning to cycling to build up confidence and stamina over the weeks, while enjoying the summer evenings and good company.
During May we’ll cover the flattest and shortest routes and as the weeks go by the miles and hills (can’t be avoided around Durham) will increase.
Doing as many of the rides as possible is recommended to reap the greatest benefits.

This, our Croxdale Ride, is one of our favourites as it takes us through the quiet and hidden rural Estate south of the River Wear. A bit of a gem. We’ll head along the shared path next to the A167 to Sunderland Bridge to start before crossing the Estate on a bridleway back to the A177 Bowburn road. We follow this back to Maiden Castle before weaving our way through the uni back to the start.

The ride is most suitable for hybrid bikes as it is a mix of surfaces and largely away from traffic.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition, bring a spare tube to fit your tyres and have lights in case the eve is dreary. We should be riding for about an hour and a half and there will be the option to stop for a cuppa/drink once back.

If you cannot make it please cancel your place using the option in let’s ride.

If there is inclement weather we may need to cancel the ride and will do so no later than 5.30pm on the day. If you have not heard from us the ride is going ahead.
