DE1 3RP
Starting in Darley Park This ride takes us out via The River Path to Alvaston Park and then The Old Canal Path and Cloud trail to Melbourne and the place where it is said the first Newton Wonder Apple Tree was found (it's on Wikipedia so must be correct). 'The tree was said to have been found in the roof-gutter of the Hardinge Arms pub, King's Newton, Derbyshire as a seedling apple-tree, by William Taylor who was the landlord of the pub at the time. He then planted the seedling in the pub garden and from that tree the first Newton Wonder apple was produced.' We continue along through Staunton Harald Reservoir (bit of a hill here) to Ticknall and Swarkeston Garden centre for a well earned break for refreshment. Returning to Darley Park via Alvaston Park on the shared bike paths.
We will encounter the usual mixture of busier roads, country lanes, some a bit muckier than others and traffic free cycle paths. It's not a particularly hilly ride though there are one or two lumpier bits which will require a bit of effort.
Refreshments will be taken at Swarkeston Garden Centre..
