EX34 9EQ

The Pier, Ilfracombe, North Devon

The Devon Coast-to-Coast cycle ride is one of the finest long distance routes of the National Cycle Network.  Route 27 running from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, combines the superb estuaries of North Devon, the valleys of the Torridge, the Tavy and Walkham rivers, and the spectacular vistas of Dartmoor and the lower lying lands of Cornwall. Three fantastic traffic free paths cover most of the route – The famous Tarka Trail begins at Braunton alongside the River Taw, and ends near Meeth; The Granite Way follows the former railway line along the north western edge of Dartmoor to Lydford;  The Drake’s Trail is the final stretch and is almost entirely traffic-free from Tavistock to Plymouth.  One of the highlights of this section is Gem Bridge, the longest bridge on the National Cycle Network, which guides riders over the beautiful Walkham Valley. This Devon Coast-to-Coast ride is the first part of a 2-day ride, Day 2 will be Sunday 15th September. Day 1: Saturday 14th September; 48 miles, finishing in the market town of Hatherleigh, (Car Park in Market Street EX20 3HS) There are some hard sections of this route, Ilfracombe to Braunton and after leaving the Tarka Trail near Petrockstowe into Hatherleigh but regular cyclists should have no problem.   For more information about the ride please contact Louise Jackson  [email protected]
