St Albans Abbey station

In 1938 Billie Fleming set the world record for the most miles cycled in a year by a woman - 29,604. She died at the age of 100 in May 2014 and this is our tribute to her. See more on www.tributetobillie.co.uk We shall retrace much of Billie's January 6th 1938 ride from Stanborough (north of Hatfield) via Potters Bar and Barnet to Mill Hill, ending at Evans Cycles in Hendon who are supporting the Tribute. We ride along the traffic-free Alban Way and the Great North Way, but there will also be a few busy road sections, so you need some experience and a reasonable level of fitness. There will be a Hendon to Pinner ride, separately booked, for those wishing to return to Harrow and Pinner. To get to St Albans from the Harrow area you can take the Overground to St Albans Abbey via Watford Junction, arriving at 0910. This train leaves Hatch End at 0831 or you can take it from other stations on the line. From Mill Hill, you can take the 0900 from Mill Hill Broadway, arriving at St Albans City at 0913. If beginning in St Albans, you can take the train back from Mill Hill Broadway at the end of the ride. Those coming from St Albans Abbey will liaise by mobile to meet those from St Albans City on the Alban Way at about 0930. NB Oyster cards are not valid on these trains. Please make sure your bike is in full working order before the day, tyres pumped up, brakes working etc. Bring a spare inner tube if you can change one. Helmets are not compulsory but dress for the weather and bring money, water and a lock. We will have refreshment stops. Like us on Facebook: Breeze Network Harrow
