Breeze Billie Fleming Day 23 - Rickmansworth to Hemel

This is Day 23 of the Billie Fleming Tribute Year - www.tributetobillie.co.uk. Billie rode 29,604 miles in 1938 to set a world record, never broken, and died in 2014 aged 100. She wanted to encourage more women to cycle, and so does Breeze! The ride is Rickmansworth-Pinner-Mill Hill-Shenley-St Albans-Harpenden-Hemel Hempstead, finishing at Hemel rail station. The whole is 41 miles but you can join us at any of the above points. Billie rode 91 miles that day in 1938, also taking in Bagshot and Windsor, but this ride's Billie checkpoints are Rickmansworth, Mill Hill, Shenley and Harpenden. We expect to be at the Cafe in the Orchard, Shenley between 10 and 10.30. If you are joining at Rickmansworth please email [email protected] or call or text 07885 232030. There are several hills on the ride and a disused railway line, the Nickey Line, between Harpenden and Hemel. Between St Albans and Harpenden we are on Sustrans Route 6. You do need experience and a functioning bike! Please check your bike over the day before, ensure the tyres are pumped up and the brakes work. Bring a spare inner tube if you can change it, water, money, a bike lock and lights.
