Starting point

HR8 1DZ

Outside Ledbury Market Hall in town centre. There will be other riders there too attending Come Cycling Ledbury's ride.

This ride will take place during and part of Come Cycling Ledbury’s ‘Big Apple’ ride, which is an annual event. It is open to women and children and we estimate an average speed of 7-8 mph. It is an undulating route, mainly on lanes but having short sections on busier roads. There is quite a climb up to Rushall before Much Marcle and another climb after passing Weston's Cider. Care will be needed at Lyne Down when we shall have a short, sharp descent to the A449 followed by a climb the other side. The description in 'ride details' classes it as 'challenging' but that might be because we are making a day event of it. There will be opportunities to walk up hills if people wish to - no hurry. It will be an ‘all day’ ride that will include stops around half way round at Much Marcle where we shall join other riders at Awnells Farm for lunch (remember to bring picnics) and can then walk through the farm’s orchards to ‘Gregg’s Pit’ where there will be apple pressing and tastings of cider and perry along with delicious apple cake (these will be charged for). Afterwards, we shall return to the middle of Much Marcle village where we will stop at Hellens Manor and take refreshments at their café. The ride will then continue to pass by Weston’s Cider and on to Lyne Down where there will be another opportunity to stop at a cider maker. We are now on our way back and will continue to Kempley with a stop to visit St Mary’s church, (Norman) with beautiful medieval wall paintings. From here it’s only a short ride back to Ledbury, and we estimate finishing around 4.30 pm.
