This is a route from Barnstaple to Instow and back, on the Tarka Trail with Julie. Beginners and those wanting gain confidence on their bike are very welcome. I will be there to support you and to enjoy a gentle ride along the beautiful Taw estuary with you and other women. It will be a steady, sociable ride and we will stay together, going at a pace that we can all do comfortably.

We will set out from the Bike Shed, through Rock Park to cross the River Taw by the iron footbridge. We will follow the cycle paths past the Tarka Leisure Centre, Tesco and the railway station to reach the Tarka Trail. The main part of the route will be on the Trail following River Taw towards the sea. Instow is the halfway point where we can stop for refreshments at a cafe or beside the Trail if you bring your own refreshments. We will return to Barnstaple along the Trail with a small detour along Taw Wharf.
The route is almost entirely traffic free. There is a short stretch of quiet road between the leisure centre and Tesco and we will cross the Long Bridge on the return to Barnstaple. The route is flat apart from the ramp on to the iron bridge and the paths are tarmacked.
