The Sutherland Arms, Tibberton

Tibberton Tour   From The Sutherland Arms Tibberton we are  heading towards Childs Ercall, crossing the River Meese.  Child’s Ercall was mentioned in the Doomesday Book of 1086 and has prehistoric ruins which show that it has been in existence since before the Bronze Age. The church at Child’s Ercall is significant as it has been rebuilt many times on the same site. This was originally thought to be a Celtic Church as the village’s name comes from a Celt word meaning ‘Holly Thicket on a Slope’. Then onwards through Ollerton to the village of Eaton Upon Tern  which still has the disused airfields that played a major role in the second world war, and we can see sweeping views of the Shropshire countryside with lots of sunny yellow from the Oilseed Rape that is in bloom at the moment. Heading homewards via Cherrington whose Manor House was popularly supposed to have been the building referenced in the nursery rhyme the House That Jack Built! A nice gentle ride through fields and then you arrive back in Tibberton having worked up a good appetite for the coffee and cake awaiting you at the Sutherland Arms. A few dos and donts: Bring road worthy bike, helmet recommended but you don't have to have one to take part, spare inner tube and puncture repair kit if you have one and of course money for coffee and cake which we will have earned by the end. Also bring a snack to eat en route and of course a drink as cycling is thirsty work! We can't book good weather so remember to bring something warmer to put on just in case we get a bit of bad weather. We want as many women to get on their bikes as possible so PLEASE DON'T WORRY about it being too fast as we ride at the pace of the slowest rider. No one is left behind. Don’t forget…. Breeze are on a mission to spread the word about their rides, and need your help. If you introduce one friend who goes on to take part in a Breeze ride, you’ll receive a Breeze water bottle, introduce a second friend, you’ll be the proud owner of one of their swish Breeze Buffs, and introduce a third friend and Breeze will send you £15 of Love2Shop vouchers.
