Starting point

Perthshire
PH1 5HT

We begin the route in Central Perth cycling around the traffic free perimeter of the famous North Inch Park heading northwards along the banks of the beautiful River Tay on a traffic free shared path. Soon, the chimney tops of Scone Palace and its grounds can be seen on the opposite bank as the river widens. Otters frequent this part of the river.
Traversing the interestingly graffitied Inveralmond underpass, we turn north heading up the A9 cycle path. Currently there are construction works alongside this section of the path as the A9 is being re-formed to incorporate the new River Tay link crossing. We turn off the cycle path heading towards Luncarty, through the south edge of the village taking the road signposted to Redgorton. We stay on this road to Pitcairngreen taking on a few inclines along this undulating stretch. From the green, we take the turning to Almondbank where we will stop for coffee/cake/lunch at the Tickled Trout Cafe at College Mill Trout Farm.
After our stop, we cross the River Almond and will see the new glass flood defences that have been built. We pass the shallow rapids and follow the river as it winds its way back downhill towards the City of Perth. The leafy sheltered traffic free path is an absolute pleasure. We return alongside the River Tay back to the North Inch and our starting point.

We are cycling in celebration of the Cycling World Championships. The Fondo and Medio Fondo events are being held in Perth on the 4th of August and this participative ride will begin close to the action of the race start point in Perth City where we will hopefully be able to see some of the racers setting off. This ride is led by a trained Breeze Champion. Breeze is the Scottish and British Cycling programme supporting more women to enjoy recreational and participative cycling in a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment. This route will take us on scenic traffic free paths and quiet roads along the banks of the Rivers Tay and Almond.

The route is on a mixture of tarmac paths and quiet country roads. There are a few gravelly sections where the tarmac surface has deteriorated in places, but it is generally a good surface.

We will stop for coffee/cake/refreshments at the Tickled Trout Cafe, College Mill, in Almondbank. Additionally, we will stop as needed for participants to have their own drinks/snacks along the way.

Helmets are recommended. Eye protection is advisable at this time of year. Riders should arrive with a well maintained bike, with tyres pumped up, and have a spare inner tube to fit their wheels as well as any tools that are specific to their bike. A waterproof jacket is helpful if there are showers of rain forecast. Bright coloured clothing is helpful to increase visibility of the group. Riders should bring money for the cafe stop to purchase drinks and snacks.

We never leave anyone behind
