Brampton

A great route with a distinctive historic theme.  Starting in the market town of Brampton you make your way out past the stunning Lanercost Priory which oozes historic importance, before cycling alongside the world heritage site of Hadrian's Wall to Bird Oswald Roman museum.

To digest this historic tour you continue to Gilsland for a potential café stop and breather before returning along delightful country lanes with terrific views across the Solway to Scotland before returning to Brampton.  The vast majority of this ride is cycled using the National Cycle Route 72 which does include some hills to climb.  So take it at a nice steady pace with plenty of time to stop and have a breather looking at the views and sites on offer.
