Brampton - History & Heritage - 18 miler

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour. Come and join us on this ride with a distinctive historic theme.  Starting in the market town of Brampton we make our way out past the stunning Lanercost Priory which oozes historic importance, before we cycle alongside the world heritage site of Hadrian's Wall to Bird Oswald Roman museum.  To digest this historic tour we continue to Gilsland for a café stop and breather before returning along delightful country lanes with terrific views across the Solway to Scotland before returning to Brampton.  The vast majority of this ride is cycled using the National Cycle Route 72 which does include some hills to climb.  We will be cycling at a nice steady pace with plenty of time to stop and have a breather looking at the views and sites on offer. Public Transport: Bus service 685 runs between Carlisle & Newcastle and stops in Brampton
