This is a beautiful, if hilly, route starting in Clitheroe at the train station and climbing over the Forest of Bowland via Bowland Knots to High Bentham for a café stop. The return takes us back to Clitheroe via the Cross of Greet and Slaidburn. If you are unfamiliar with this part of the world it is stunning and IMO on par the best of the Yorkshire dales. The pace will be quite steady, as at 4,500ft overall, there is a lot of climbing for a 45-mile ride. There are two 1000ft climbs to do which are mostly at a reasonable 5-7% gradient with the odd section at 12%. This ride is nearly all quite country roads, but you will need a decent road/gravel/hybrid bike with road tyres. Please bring a helmet, spare inner tube and money for the café stop.
Given the location and terrain, I do reserve the option of rejecting riders, not known to me or unable to demonstrate a reasonable level of fitness. The ride is timed to coincide with the trains to Clitheroe – but if you are planning to catch the train, please let me know as there are limits on bikes.
