Starting point

We start at the Blunsdon shop and café, located at the junction of Sam’s Lane and Blunt Rise. There are toilets and hot drinks available if you arrive early.

We’ll head off along Sam’s Lane and then join the B4019 Blunsdon to Highworth Road. We turn off at the “Grill on the Hill” (formerly the Freke Arms) and ride out through Hannington to Castle Eaton. This part of the route is undulating with a short climb up to Lushill House.
From Castle Eaton, the route is flat as we head to Down Ampney then Latton and on to Cricklade. There will be a short sharp climb at Latton as we use the byway bridge to cross the A419.
After Cricklade, we join the C70 which is a quiet (and flat) road which takes us to the outskirts of Swindon, close to the heritage railway.
For those heading back to Blunsdon, there will be one final climb up into the village.

This is an introduction to road cycling, taking the opportunity to visit some lovely villages and historical locations close to Swindon. Our route will take us from Blunsdon to Swanborough and then with 2 short climbs on to Hannington. From there, we climb up to the historical Lus Hill before descending to Castle Eaton. We cross the River Thames and ride through lanes to Down Ampney and then Latton. Crossing the A419 by means of a pedestrian and cyclists bridge, we pass through Cricklade and on to the back road leading to the Swindon & Cricklade Railway. And finally, return to Blunsdon via Tadpole Garden Village.

The majority of the ride is on quiet roads. We do, however, have a spell on the busier Blunsdon to Highworth road, for about 1.3 miles.

There will be a number of stops to take photographs and have refreshments - these will be determined on the day.

Please bring a water bottle full of your favourite drink and you may wish to bring a small snack with you. We will stop for a coffee on the ride, the venue will be agreed on the day. Helmets are not compulsory but most definitely recommended on this ride. Please note that this route is not suitable for children.

First-timers welcome!
