We’ll head off along Sam’s Lane and then join the B4019 Blunsdon to Highworth Road. We turn off at the “Grill on the Hill” (formerly the Freke Arms) and ride out through Hannington to Castle Eaton. This part of the route is undulating with a short climb up to Lushill House.
From Castle Eaton, the route is flat as we head to Down Ampney then Latton and on to Cricklade. There will be a short sharp climb at Latton as we use the byway bridge to cross the A419.
After Cricklade, we join the C70 which is a quiet (and flat) road which takes us to the outskirts of Swindon, close to the heritage railway.
For those heading back to Blunsdon, there will be one final climb up into the village.

This ride will serve as an introduction to road cycling for riders wishing to try for the first time. It will also be a great refresher for riders who may not have been out for a while. The 21 mile route will take in a number of local villages.

The roads are quiet and flat with the exception of a 1 mile piece on the B4019 (Blunsdon to Highworth road).

We will stop at several villages along the way to take photos. There will also be a coffee stop.

Please bring a water bottle full of your favourite drink and you may wish to bring a small snack with you. We will stop for a coffee on the ride, the venue will be agreed on the day. For all of our rides you should bring at least a spare inner tube and a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then a spanner that fits the nuts is also essential. Helmets are not compulsory but most definitely recommended on this ride. Please note that this route is not suitable for children. You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone. Please note that many cafes and shops now only accept card payments at the moment. We welcome newcomers to our ride group, but we want you to enjoy the ride so please consider the route, distance and terrain. If this ride is likely to be a bit difficult then check out our other rides which we put on for new cyclists and those returning after a period away from cycling. You will be able to find one of our rides to suit your ability.

First-timers welcome!
