Starting at Hugh’s café in Burnside, head for Cambuslang where we cross the Clyde and head west to London Road which we cross and head up to Tollcross and Carntyne. From there we take the major climb on the route to get up to Hogganfield Loch. We move on to Robroyston Park on quiet roads and shared paths, swing round Springburn Park and then head to Bishopbriggs. After the coffee stop, we go out to the Forth and Clyde Canal and ride to Stockingfield Bridge and on to Maryhill. From there we take NCN 756 down the Kelvin Way, on to the River Clyde and then return to Burnside through Rutherglen.

I describe this route as a leisure ride. It tries to avoid roads as much as possible. However, to get from the south side of Glasgow to the north almost inevitably involves using roads. We cross to Cambuslang and then take in Hogganfield Loch and Robroyston Park to get to Bishopbriggs for the coffee stop. We ride along the Forth and Clyde Canal past Stockingfield Bridge to the Kelvin Way. We then follow NCN routes down to the Clyde and back to Burnside through Rutherglen.

The route is classified as paved for most of its length. There will be some cycling on roads which have cycle lanes and some with none. The route after Bishopbriggs is mostly on NCN paths, much of which is shared with pedestrians.

We will stop at the Cadder Parish Church Coffee Shop in Bishopbriggs for coffee and cake. We will probably be too early for cooked food. https://www.cadderchurch.org/coffeeshop.html If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible or icy, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers welcome but please check the anticipated cycle speed.
