Billie Fleming, who died in May 2014 aged 100, has a unique place in the history of cycling. In 1938, she cycled every day and set the women's world record for the greatest distance cycled in a single year. We will be riding as part of the 2015 Billie Fleming Tribute Ride - which aims to have a woman or a group cycling everyday this year, in tribute to Billie who loved cycling and cycled everyday in 1938 specifically to encourage more women to cycle. You can read more about Billie and the tribute ride here: http://www.tributetobillie.co.uk/ We will follow our much loved Breeze route from Port Penrhyn along the cycle path but we will pass the Pant Yr Ardd pub in Tregarth, and continue on to Bethesda where we will stop for some food a drink and raise a glass to Billie. You will need to let me know in advance if you would like a bowl of homemade vegetarian soup with a roll, it will be £3. The pub (The Victoria) does not serve food as standard so please email me on [email protected] to order your food. This ride is mostly on the cycle tracks (traffic free) which is along an old railway line, with just a couple of miles on the quiet road through Tregarth Bring a bike lock if you have one, although I will bring some spares and we can share. You will needs lights and an extra layer (and gloves) as the cycle track can be quite chilly, especially on the way home. Generally it is slightly up hill on the way there and therefore quite a bit of downhill on the way back, but is a gentle ride suitable for most and we will go at the pace of the slowest rider. It's a good idea to bring a spare inner tube (but not essential). It is up to you whether you wear a cycling helmet. Please arrive by 5.20pm for a pre-ride bike check and quick warm up.
