Newbridge Park & Ride - on the West of Bath BA1 3NB
A circular route covering just under 20 miles....
Starting from the Park & Ride we have a short bit of road before dropping onto the river path that takes us into Bath. Then we go through the best of Georgian Bath, across the town, picking up the canal path out of Bath to the East, circling down south, then taking a few quiet country lanes to lead us to the brilliant Two Tunnels Greenway to bring us back home....
Going is good and firm - but the canal path can be a bit gravelly - your bum will probably thank you for being on a hybrid or MB rather than a dedicated rigid roadster!
Oh - and this is a great route if you don't like hills! The route is mostly flat. Where there is gradient its very slight well-surfaced old train line. There are a couple of very minor short climbs in the country lanes but really nothing of note or concern.
It's a very comfortable ride at about 12mph on my hybrid - but for a group ride I suspect the pace would drop slightly to 8-10mph (give or take).... depends how chatty we all are!
There's a variety of stopping points - I was planning just a single break half-way-ish - for ice-cream /coffee/cake/similar somewhere on the route. But it's a group ride so I'm open to negotiations!
And finally - I suspect this ride wouldn't suit really young riders?... a degree of bike awareness is needed - whilst this is a lovely quiet safe gentle ride - there are a couple busy road crossings, a short stint on the main road, a traversing across the centre of Bath (which can be full of people), and the canal path is popular with other walkers, runners and bikers that need navigating around.
Oh.... and definitely finally.... there's little fun to be had on this ride if the weather is grim! #fairweatherbiker
Make sure to keep in touch- if it looks like we might get drowned by heavy rain then I'll postpone! (or since this is the first ride I've organised - to postpone if no-one else wants to join in!)
