BC Let's Ride: 'Summer of Cycling 2021' - A Day at the Seaside

The ride will start from outside Southport Park Golf Club, Park Road West/The Promenade, Southport PR9 0JS. Please note that there is no car parking available but there is plenty of on road parking on Park Road West and adjoining roads (Knowsley Road and Avondale Road North). We head out along Marine Drive and the Coastal Road as far as Woodvale RAF base; cross Formby bypass onto Moor Lane, Plex Moss Lane, North Moss Lane (around Formby Hall GC), back onto Moor Lane and return along coastal path and Marine Drive. We will cycle through Kings Gardens onto the Promenade and back onto Marine Parade. Optional Loop (dependent on weather and rider abilities) onto Banks Road and return via cycle path and back onto Marine Parade and return via The Fairway and to our start point at Southport Park Golf Club.

Second in a series of local rides to celebrate British Cycling’s Let’s Ride ‘Summer of Cycling 2021’ campaign. A gentle mostly flat ride along Marine Drive and the Coastal Road as far as Woodvale. Through Kings Gardens onto Promenade Marine Parade. Optional Loop onto Banks Road return via cycle path and back onto Marine Parade left onto The Fairway and return to Southport Park Golf Club

This ride is suitable for hybrid bikes (fitted with road and off-road tyres), mountain bikes and road bikes (with caution) and is mostly on hard surface roads and cycle paths some of which have a loose stone finish.

There are plenty of food outlets en route and we will stop adjacent to Southport Pier on the return leg for refreshments or fish and chips or both!. Make sure you bring along money for your food but, if you prefer, bring your own packed lunch and drinks. Or the other alternative: there is always an ice cream van somewhere if you need an ice cream fix!

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). You will also be required to carry hand sanitising gel, vinyl gloves and a mask (as per Covid guidance). We expect all our riders to adhere to all the current government guidelines with regard to social distancing and precautions needed during the current pandemic. If in any doubt, please ask and we will provide all relevant BC guidance.

It is essential that everybody enjoys the ride so it will be at a gentle pace (average 8-10mph), but the pace will be determined by the overall pace of the group. Always remember, we will never leave anyone behind! There will also be plenty of photo stops en route!
