Basingstoke to Winchester (18.5 miles) - pre-Christmas visit!

***NOTE, THIS RIDE IS RESCHEDULED FROM TUESDAY 21ST**** Fancy a day trip? Join Ruth (and hopefully more!) for a social Christmas ride to the historic City of Winchester where we hope to find some mulled wine, mince pies, and perhaps a quick look in to the Cathedral/ Christmas markets. We aim to accommodate as many people as possible pace-wise on this ride so it won't be one of our faster rides therefore do bring extra layers of clothes! A fairly direct one-way cycling route from Hatch Warren, Basingstoke, to Winchester City Centre, avoiding major roads. You will see from the elevation that apart from the hill over the M3 to the top of Farleigh Hill at the start, and the hill at Northington, it is mostly down hill! The ride is listed as one way - there is the option to ride back with a leader - this will be a more 'hilly' ride and we will go at the appropriate pace with whoever wants to ride back - Otherwise you can get a train back (they are regular) or phone a friend for a lift. Up to you. We're aiming for around 2 hours to ride it and the rest of the time is up to you though I've put 3.5 hrs you don't need to hang around. Come straight back, stay around for a while. If riding back, obviously allow time for that. Bring warm clothes suitable to the weather and pace of ride, spare inner tube and whatever you would usually carry for your own needs.
