End of Essex Road (it is a no-through road, meet at the dead-end), by Victory Roundabout; nearest postcode shown.

This ride just under 20 miles is mostly on cycle/shared paths, short quiet on-road well-lit sections with one busy section at the end which is straightforward to negotiate in a group. You will need bicycle lights that allow you to see where you are going in the dark (try them in a very dark room!), and make sure you wrap up warm as riding in the dark and on paths is generally a little slower. But this is a very pretty ride and will show you most of the cycle/shared paths in Basingstoke and good to learn some cut-throughs to avoid main roads. Not really suitable for road/race bikes with skinny tyres due to the short sections that can be a bit muddy and bumpy in Crabtree and Oakley path. Any other bike type will be fine. It is the same as the ride a few weeks back to Oakley with a little extension out to Crabtree. Queries... email: [email protected] www.facebook.com/breezingstoke twitter @breezingstoke
