RG22 4RA

Portsmouth Arms, Hatchwarren Ln, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG22 4RA

This evening ride will suit those of you who're getting a bit fitter and ready to challenge yourselves on some hills south of Basingstoke. Or anyone who wants a social ride! Aiming for 1 hour 30 with stops. Mountain bikes make it harder but you're welcome to bring yours if you're used to riding this sort of distance, speed etc on it. We take the cycle path initially from the Portsmouth Arms then head up over the M3 to Farleigh Wallop. Down and up the 'big dipper' through Ellisfield, down by The Fox on Green Lane, then circle back up to Ellisfield past the Church, then back via Cliddesden and Wood Lane. Going this way round avoids the steepest sides of the hills - the bit over the M3 at the start is probably one of the more steep bits but is short - as is the 'big dipper'! So there are some ups and downs yes indeed but if you are ready to test yourself but a bit nervous then this is the one for you as we will ensure we all get round safely and if you need to walk up a hill you can we wait at the top. Photo opportunities?! There will be more rides to suit all abilities coming up but this one is aiming for 10mph so slower than some of the mid-week rides to date as it's the first one so this is to encourage those who are just getting back into it or haven't done this route before. All more experienced riders welcome so long as you're prepared to wait at top of hills etc and be social! We can stop for a drink at Portsmouth Arms at the end weather etc dependent. Make sure you've got lights on your bike, and high visibility items if you have them - we should not need them at this time of year and we're not far from home but you never know punctures etc. Keep track of us on facebook.com/breezingstoke or email [email protected] twitter @breezingstoke See you then! Ruth
