The bike racks at Balgreen Tram stop

This is a challenging route but well worth it for the lovely views from up high! We will start from Balgreen Tram Stop and join the water of leith path along to Lanark Road where we will join the main road for a short spell before rejoining the water of leith path to Balerno. From Balerno we will cycle on some quiet roads up to Harlaw Reservoir, and i mean up!! Once there we will cool down with a wee cycle around Threpmuir reservoir before heading back downhill - this is the fun part! On joining the cycle path back toward Edinburgh you will soon realise that the hard part was done on the outward journey with lots of downhill slopes now. We will then join the Canal path out to our lovely downhill to Hermiston Gate and back to the start point via the tram path. This is a challenging ride suitable for hybrid or mountain bikes due to the mixed surface paths and not suitable for road bikes. Although there is a fair bit of climbing on this ride, no-one will be left behind and walking up hills is allowed! We will stop at the Harlaw visitor centre and there is usually a van there selling sandwiches, snacks and drinks.
