Aspatria

This route starts from the centre of Aspatria and follows country lanes north, before turning east towards the village of Abbeytown, which has developed around the site of the former Cistercian Abbey built over 900 years ago and now open as Holme Cultram Abbey.

Travelling North from Abbeytown the route soon arrives at Silloth, one of the finest examples of a Victorian seaside resort in the North of England.

Heading south west from Silloth the route follows the coastal road towards Allonby and this section of the route is within the Solway Coast Area of Natural Beauty. It gives views across the Solway to the Galloway Coast of South West Scotland and the magnificent mountain The Criffel.

After passing through Allonby the route turns inland heading down country roads past many farmers fields on its way back to Aspatria.
