Ashington Notables

From Ashington Hirst Park to Newbiggin and back.

This route is part of a collaboration of rides celebrating notable women in the North East between Cycle with Jan, North East Breeze Leaders and the Full Circle Food Project.

This ride takes in Cissy Charlton (mother of Bobby Charlton), the so called first lady in football born in the small mining town of Ashington. From here we will make our way to the sea front at Newbiggin to hear the story of Bella Arkles whose bravery saved many lives.
We will return to Ashington for refreshments coinciding with the re-launch of the Ashington Cycle hub.

This ride is aimed at new and returning women into cycling. Our route covers quiet residential roads, cycle paths and the National cycle path.
We recommend you wrap up warmly; layers are better than one thick top which can be removed as required. The weather can be very changeable at this time of year, so waterproofs at the ready are also advisable. On all our rides we do strongly recommend you wear a helmet and you carry with you 2 spare inner tubes that fit your bike

Ashington to Newbegin on cycle paths to visit local notable women

Mainly cycle path with some quiet roads.

Helmets are always advisable as is an inner tube fitted to your bike wheel a bicycle pump and tyre levers are also useful.
