A trip South of the River and Canary Wharf
This is a steady, relatively flat, ride through London and although a lot is on cycle tracks there will be some main busy roads so is suitable for those that are confident with London traffic and can cycle more than 10-12 km without a break. Please bring snacks, water, and money/cards for a hot drink and also the ferry (£4.10). Also clothes suitable for the weather conditions as well as sun cream if needed.
The ride will start at Kings Cross Station in front of the German Gymnasium near the swing at King’s Cross. We will leave promptly at 10.30am so please aim to arrive by 10.15am and give yourselves plenty of time to get to the Starting Point, grab a coffee, use the toilets etc. Trains run from New Barnet, Oakleigh Park and New Southgate to Kings Cross but you may have to change. Please check the trains beforehand and I will too and message if I see any issues.
We wind through Clerkenwell and Farringdon down to Blackfriars Bridge before crossing the Thames and taking quiet roads through Southwark. We will wend back towards the river and after about 8km, stop at the site of King Edward III’s Manor House and look over to allegedly the base of the oldest Police Force in the world. We will also learn about the youth worker Dr Salter and family.
Continuing along the river, we pass through pretty Russia Dock Woodland and then back passed Surrey Dock Farm to The Barn Café. There we can stop for a toilet break and a cuppa. Close by is the Doubletree Ferry terminal to take the ferry to Canary Wharf. This costs £4.10 per person payable by card.
After the 5 minute crossing, we will cycle back through East London and the City before getting back to Kings Cross. We can stop at the Camley Street Natural Park for a cuppa and sandwich back at King’s Cross in a tucked away oasis of calm.
We always welcome newcomers and we never leave anyone behind !
