This ride is part of an occasional series of 5th Saturday rides run by the Cycling UK affiliated group Cyclists in Southwark, which complement rides from Cutty Sark Gardens on Saturdays and from the View Tube on Sundays. It is taking place because, every so often, there are strange anomalies in our calendar - we can find that there are five Saturdays in a month. Whilst, at first glance, it would appear that this would only happen if a month had 35 days in it, on closer inspection, it turns out that this can happen even when a month is shorter than this. As with a Solar eclipse, strange things can then happen. One of these is that we can find ourselves without a Healthy Ride to do. However, every cloud has a silver lining and this gives us an opportunity to do our own ride which is less Southwark-focussed - a ride which, like Heineken, reaches parts that other Healthy Rides cannot reach. We can have non-Southwark cyclists inviting Southwark cyclists to come on a ride, instead of it always being the other way around. On this ride, we first make our way to the brand new CS5 which takes us from the Oval to Pimlico. We then cycle up to Hyde Park and cycle round the Paddington Basin, the Surrey Docks of the far North-West. We then follow the Grand Union Canal towpath and you will be amazed to discover that, even when you are cycling in the distant lands north of the Westway, you are still cycling in our neighbouring borough Kensington and Chelsea. We then come back using some very nice out-of-the-way cycle paths which many Southwark cyclists will probably not know about. They take us through Holland Park where we will stop off for half and hour to have coffee. We return through the wonderful architecture of the Brompton Cemetery and then through the verdant grasslands of Battersea Park and then the roads surrounding the .the verdant grasslands of Battersea Park.
