To celebrate a big birthday, a 50 mile ride for a fifty year old cyclist from Birmingham (about a mile from J2 M5) to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas. The route starts from 'Flavourz Restaurant' follows mostly lower class A roads and lanes via Galton Bridge Railway Station (2nd meet/start point), The Hawthrons, Queslett, Sutton Park, Shenstone, Lichfield, arriving at the National Memorial Arboretum. Distance from 'Flavourz Restaurent' is just over 50 miles, with a total of 2400ft ascent. The route and elevation profile can be found: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/flavourz-to-fradley This ride is very much weather dependant and road/road-hybrid bikes are essential. Average speed will be around the 11-13 mph, but pace will generally be guided by terrain (its hilly on the way back) and the prevailing road conditions.
