Traffic Free Family Ride to Amberswood – 7 Mile Bike Ride

The aim of this ride is to introduce families to what is available from the Guided Ride Programme. All bookings should be parents or guardians bringing children aged between 5 and 15, please do not book on if you do not meet this criteria as you will not be allowed to ride. All riders must be capable of riding a bicycle without stabilisers. Bikes with child seats are ok but tagalongs or trailers would be problematic on this particular ride due to the gates we need to pass through. Children in child seats do not need to be booked on.

We begin with a quick bike and equipment check. This will be followed by a quick assessment of the abilities of the riders in the group which we use to dictate the pace and organisation within the group.

A bit about the route, from the Arena car park pass by the Brick Community Stadium to join the canal towpath towards Wigan Pier and up to Lower Ince. The towpath is a very good surface and wide enough that we are not too close to the canal. We leave the canal at Lower Ince and take to the trails to go over to Amberswood to do a loop around the lake before returning back to Robin Park along the same route.

If we have had a lot of rain prior to the ride there could well be a few puddles to ride through, usually enjoyed by the children, not so by the adults.
