20 Women who changed the World at Bishop Auckland Town Hall
Start at Meadowfield Sports Centre (the bench next to the old railway line in the grassy area above the sports centre) DH7 8RS
Join us for a bike ride and visit to Bishop Auckland Town Hall to see the exhibition ‘20 historical Women who changed the World’ which is a bold, colourful, educational and historically inspired set of modern paintings of women who has a massive impact on the contemporary world. We’ll also take a break at the Town Hall for refreshments.
We’ll pedal on our outward route from Meadowfield to Sunderland Bridge, Spennymoor and along the Auckland Way to Bishop Auckland. Here we’ll take a look at the exhibition and have refreshments in the town hall cafe under the auspices of the mighty Norman Cornish Miners Gala painting.
Our return will be shorter along the Brandon to Bishop railway path.
Our pedalling will be largely traffic free with a few sections of quiet road and some uppy downies but nothing too drastic.
The railway paths are mainly a good surface and we’ll follow one slightly rougher bridleway for about half a mile so the ride will be suitable for all bikes apart from very skinny road tyres. This is a good ride if you want to start to build up your confidence mileage wise while also enjoying some of Durham’s lovely countryside. Please come suitably dressed for the weather and make sure you’ve got a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to return by about 3pm. We’re likely to stop at the Town Hall for at least an hour and a half. See it as a day out.
If you cannot make it please cancel your place and if last minute, ie the morning of the ride, please also put a note in the ride ‘conversation’.
As the weather can be unpredictable we may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great or go for a walk instead. we'll make any decision to cancel/amend by 8.30am on the morning and let you know via the conversation tab within the ride booking system and on our Breeze network Durham Facebook page.
