2 Valleys to Gibside

This is a steady route along a popular cycle path with great views along the Derwent Valley. Red kites are often seen along the valley, and the gentle gradual climb up to Gibside is rewarded with a visit to one of the finest National Trust properties in the Country. The cafe and gift shop sell a great range of local produce and presents.  The National Trust has invested in a major project to offer Gibside's visitors purpose-built, all-weather parking facilities and an improved arrival experience for pedestrians, cyclists and buses too. The local staff and volunteers want to show you that Gibside is a great local destination for people arriving by bicycle.  http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/gibside/  It's a good idea to bring some water and you may also want to bring a snack if you think your energy levels may need topping up. Please dress appropriately for the weather: in cold weather it's good to wear lots of thin layers, so you can add/remove them as needed; a pair of warm gloves and warm socks may also be useful.  We will stop at Gibside for a quick break so please bring some change if you'd like to purchase refreshments from the cafe.
