Are you up for the challenge? This ride will go further than ever before with 100 miles in the same day in one ride. We’re off to Harrogate!

Make sure you have a good breakfast. It’s an early start from the Beefeater at Morton Park at 8am. The ride travels roughly in a southerly direction, into the countryside via Hurworth, Croft, Dalton, Pepper Arden, Streetlam, Great Langton, Kirkby Fleetham, the Fencotes and then into more urban familiarity with Leeming Bar and Bedale, where we’ll have a short comfort break. We then carry on through the countryside through Exelby, Theakston, Burneston, Carthorpe, Kirklington, Howgrave, Wath, Nunwick and Hutton Conyers, before passing through the famous market town of Ripon. We then pass through the Studley Park estate and around Fountains Abbey, then head through Ripley. The final leg of the outgoing journey takes the old railway line to get to the centre of Harrogate where we’ll take our well-deserved stopover at the Prologue Performance Cycling café. After feeding up on some good grub, we’ll set off for the ride home, which will ride along the outgoing route in reverse. The return ride will include another comfort break around the Bedale area. We would expect to be back to the Beefeater for around 8pm.

This ride is only for the hardy and experienced cyclist and is classed as a SUPER CHALLENGING ride at just over 100 miles. As you would expect over this distance, the ride is undulating and will contain some hill climbs. The ride is all on the road or cycleways – lightweight and fast bikes only (e.g. road bikes) suitable for this ride. It is suitable for riders who are experienced cyclists and who will be comfortable sustaining around 13mph avg. and can continuously cycle for around 5 hours at once (50 miles without much stopping in each direction). The stopovers on this ride will total around 2-3 hours, we expect the whole ride to take around 12 hours. These times are a guide.

For a ride of this distance, you need to prepare well. You must bring: a helmet, replacement inner tubes and/or puncture repair equipment, plenty of water, clothing layers in case of changes in weather, methods of payment for sustenance or alternative transport options, plus a mobile phone, fully charged, for emergency contact. A cycle computer with navigation is also recommend. It is a good idea to have someone on hand during the day who you can call on for help and who is prepared to drive to pick you up in case you have to abandon, there will be little time for the group to stop in case of major problems.
