MTB Wantage

Local Mountain Bike riders looking for routes and people to cycle with. Everyone will be courteous and helpful and go at the speed of the slowest rider. MTB Wantage is a friendly and social cycling group MTB Wantage aims to do a monthly weekend social rides covering as much off road routes as physically possible at a pace that all in the group can ride to (as no one gets left behind). There will be regular stops to catch your breath, rehydrate etc and allow any splits in the group to reattach with route being published on letsride.co.uk before the ride. Those wishing to come on the ride will need to register on the ride page.

PLEASE BE AWARE YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BOTH YOURSELF AND YOUR BIKE. YOUR OWN SAFETY & WELLBEING IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY NOT MTB WANTAGE NOR THE RIDE ORGANISER OR OTHER RIDERS. MTB WANTAGE DOES NOT PROVIDE INSURANCE FOR ITS RIDES OR THOSE WHO ATTEND. HOWEVER ADVISE GETTING YOUR OWN INSURANCE WHICH IS OFTEN INCLUDED WITH BIKE INSURANCE E.G. YELLOW JERSEY OR BY JOINING BRITISH CYCLING OR CYCLING UK AS AN INDIVIDUAL MEMBER. All members of MTB Wantage are welcome to organise rides that don't conflict with the Club rides. PLEASE NOTE ANY RIDES ORGANISED BY CLUB MEMBERS ARE NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MTB WANTAGE (please see advice above regarding insurance)

The majority of rides (whenever practicable) are on routes that have been planned and ridden beforehand. However this isn't always possible and even the best planned routes sometimes have to be altered depending on circumstances often out of our control such as accidents, road closures, weather, etc. All riders will be expected to carry appropriate riding gear eg waterproofs and spares/repairs items eg tools and puncture repair kits and have suitable lights for night rides and daylight safety lights for daytime rides to ensure visibility on any public highway that might be encountered. All riders will need to wear a helmet, no helmet no ride. All riders would be advised to get a PMR446 walkie talkie, while not essential for all riders would be beneficial for lead and tail riders to communicate effectively should any problems arise. Channel 4 sub channel 4 providing not being used by others would be the chosen channel. These can be brought very cheaply from outdoor hobby shops and online stores

Details: Where: We meet at a predefined point preferably at an off road location.

When: Monthly Rides with more frequent rides in the summer when weather conditions are better.

Cost: We are currently free but if circumstances change then everyone would be informed well in advance. Membership fee: No membership fees are currently charged as we are not a club but like minded individuals looking for company on a ride. We would like to keep it this way, but do encourage yourselves getting some form of insurance should anything go wrong.

VERY IMPORTANT: Safety is paramount and something we take seriously as everyone has the right to enjoy a ride and return home safely, therefore when out on a MTB Wantage ride you must ride safely at all times respecting other road users & following the highway code. A helmet conforming to British standards must be worn at all times. NO HELMET NO RIDE. Lastly it's about enjoying yourselves and treating everyone in the group with the kindness, courtesy and respect that you would like to be treated by. Bullying, harassment or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
