Starting from - We’ll meet at the far end of the car park at Wenvoe Garden Centre (furthest away from the centre itself), there are toilets and a café here if you are early. I will be cycling out from Dinas Powys so if you want to catch the train to Dinas Powys I can meet you there to cycle out which will add a couple of miles to the route. The train arriving into Dinas just before 10am would be best to allow plenty of time for late trains etc. CF5 6AD

Starting at Pugh’s Garden Village Wenvoe, we’ll head down the wide shared use pavement down to Barry and alongside Port Road. We then have a stretch on road down to Porthkerry Park. From Porthkerry Park we will take the cycle path/lane to climb up to the airport. We will then take a mix of cycle paths and roads through Rhoose and along towards the Blue Anchor pub. We then turn onto very quiet lanes and return on the path alongside the airport boundary before returning to the start point on the same route with a refreshment stop at the café in Porthkerry.

This is a new Breeze route, through Porthkerry and around Rhoose on as quiet roads as possible. There are two bigger hills in and out of Porthkerry but both are on very quiet road and there is no rush, if you need to walk, we will wait at the top of hills as needed. This is a good first longer/road ride if you’ve mostly ridden on cycle paths to date.

As far as possible the route is on off road bike paths (from Wenvoe to Barry) and quiet roads/lanes through the Vale, but there is a short section on busier roads in Barry.

We’ll stop for lunch/coffee at the café in Porthkerry Park about two thirds of the way round, but there is also the option to have a refreshment stop at the café at the garden centre at the end too.

Make sure your bike is in good working order and bring clothes appropriate for the weather, extra layers are a good idea in case we have to wait for people at the top of hills which can be breezy! A puncture repair kit/spare inner tube is always a good idea. Bring a lock and money for the café stop, although the café is small and we can sit near the bikes if fine. Water and a snack in case we take longer than expected are also a good idea.

We never leave anyone behind
