Starting point

Hertfordshire
WD18 6LB

This ride is especially for adults, children and teens who want to increase their riding distance, know how to use their gears and want to build in climbing a few hills. The pace of this ride is likely to average 7-10 mph over the undulating route, so everyone can ride at a pace which is comfortable for them. There is one big climb up Windmill Hill - but the cafe and Chipperfield Common is at the top - so well worth the effort and achievement of climbing it and no shame if you need to get off and walk part of it - this ride is all about giving people a chance.

The route out to Chipperfield Common is mainly on very quiet country lanes, with lovely scenery.

On reaching Chipperfield Common, you can either enjoy your own picnic on The Common, or stop at Blackwells cafe & bistro for refreshments.

Please bring two spare inner tubes in case of a puncture - as changing an inner tube is faster than getting out the rubber glue. The Ride Leaders can help if anyone in the group has a puncture on the day. Watford Cycle Hub sell inner tubes from £4 new, or recycled ones for 50p patched, £1 with no patches, should you need to purchase any.

Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped. You can also come along early before the ride to use our track pump, or we can help you get your tyres to the correct pressure pre-ride. :)

If your bike might need a little more TLC or hasn't been ridden for a while, you can always bring it in for a free assessment; we're a Not-For-Profit, Community Enterprise and promise to give you an honest price if your bike needs fixing, fine tuning or a full service. :)
