Starting point

Wiltshire
SN3 6DB

We follow R45 of the National Cycle Network (south) from Coate to Chiseldon, at the Three Trees we turn left and start a climb which will take us to Foxhill, where we turn right and make our way to aldbourne for Refreshments (needed because after this we immediately go in search of those pesky Daleks) If we find one we will exterminate it and then make our up Castle Hill toward the abandoned Snap Village. We then descend carefully to Ogbourne St George and have the option of returning on the road via Draycot Foliat or the Railway path

Our features some hills as we make our way to Aldbourne, which is surrounded by rolling chalk hills and is within easy reach of Hungerford, Marlborough and Swindon. St. Michael’s Church which overlooks the village green dates back to the 11th century. We will pass by the village of Snap (not sure of the rumour that it was abandoned after a Dalek visited in the early 20th Century)

The start and finish couple of miles are traffic free. The rest of the route is on B class roads which undulate somewhat over the chalk hills. You will need your low gears for some sections

We may face some challenges along the way but we will be rewarded by a stop at one of your leaders favourite tea/coffee stops "Time at The Forge" https://timeattheforge.co.uk/

Don’t forget a full water bottle with your favourite thirst quencher. Please bring a face mask; you may have to wear it on entering a café and in the event of first aid being required. For all our rides you should bring at least a spare inner tube and a pump. If your wheels are bolted on then a spanner that fits the nuts is also essential. Helmets are not compulsory but most definitely recommended. You should dress appropriately for the weather, and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or debit card for the coffee stop as some café’s only take card payments.

we welcome first timers on our rides. however this ride is not really suited to those who are new to cycling because of the distance and hills involved. However if you have a new E bike and want to test it out then maybe this is a good opportunity. Please check the map and route elevation
