Starting point

Glamorgan

Starting at Lewis Arms, Tongwynlais we’ll follow A4054 up to Merthyr Tydfil. Then pick up cycle track towards Pontsticill reservoir. From there we’ll be on lanes to Talybont-on-Usk, including a testing climb up to Torpantau and a steep descent down to Talybont Reservoir.
We’ll stop off at the Talybont Stores for lunch.
Then we take the B4558 through Llangynidr, turning off on to the B4560 to take on the Beaufort climb, 4k at 8%. We’ll regroup in the car park. After a short descent another 1k climb will get us to the top before a long descent down into Beaufort.
From there the route follows the A4047 to Sirhowy, the A4048 towards Blackwood, the B4251 through Blackwood and then ‘Bryn Road’ to the A4049/A472 junction.
We then pick up another cycle track to Penallta Road, just north of Ystrad Mynach. We drop down through Ystrad Mynach and Llanbradach on the old Caerphilly Road. After a short section on the busy A469 we make our way through Caerphilly, past the Station and up to St Martins Road. Making our way through the housing estate we then pick up the Taff Trail and drop back down to Tongwynlais. (Detour in place at Taffs Well due to Metro works).
