Syon Park to Twickenham returning via the riverside

This women-only ride from Syon Park to Twickenham should suit less experienced cyclists who want to build their confidence and who enjoy the social aspect of riding with others. Trying to stay close as a group, we will cycle at the pace of the slowest rider using quieter residential roads and shared-use pathways. This ride is the first of four “Saturday Shorts” during January and February from Syon Park. In 2019 you can receive rewards for your winter miles as riders who complete four or more rides during January and February will receive HSBC UK Breeze goodies.

Our ride takes in two splendid settings, the grounds of both Syon and Marble Hill. On leaving Syon we glimpse the Thames at Isleworth; at Twickenham we can pause to look at the nine acre Eel Pie Island before hugging the river for our return and catching a magnificent view of the Star and Garter building on the opposite side of the Thames at the top of Richmond Hill.

To join the ride you need a bike in full working order so please check beforehand that the brakes work, the wheels spin freely and the tyres are pumped up. No special clothing is required but you should dress for the weather, remembering gloves and avoiding loose garments that could catch in your chain. A helmet, some drinking water and a spare inner tube are recommended. Please bring some cash if you intend to stay for optional refreshments in the Garden Centre café on our return plus, if you have one, a lock for your bike.

First-time riders are especially welcome. Our rides are friendly and we always go at the pace of the slowest rider.
