A social ride from Woking train station, up into the Surrey Hills AONB, and back to Woking, with a trained British Cycling ride leader. We depart from Woking train station, and make our way to West Clandon. From there it’s a short ride to the first of the Surrey Hills, used in the Ride London 100 Sportive, at Newlands Corner. After a short stop, to catch our breath, and take in the stunning scenery. Then we set off for the two biggest climbs of the day. A climb of Leith Hill, from the Etherley Hill direction, is followed by a descent through Abinger Common, where we can stop briefly for refreshments, and to catch our breath. The next climb is undoubtedly the toughest challenge of the ride. A climb of White Down Lane, up to Ranmore Common. A brief opportunity to rest, and then we head off to Westhumble and the final climb of the route, at Box Hill. We then stop at the Box Hill Cafe, for refreshments, and to take in some more stunning views, followed by a return to Woking train station. The ride will be at a social pace 10-14 mph ( targeted), the actual pace is dictated by the slowest rider in the group, no one gets dropped, and although the hills are challenging, they’re nothing that can’t be walked up if necessary. All timings ( except the start time ) are approximate, the published route is intended as a guide only.
