Starting point

Powys Radnorshire

Using quiet country lanes, we’ll cycle towards Erwood and soon start our assent of Sunnybank. The road is steep but well graded, with lots of switchbacks to help level out the climb but that doesn’t make it easy, it’s one of those climbs you’ll always remember!

After this, the lanes are undulating with some steep downhill sections after the beautifully exposed Ffynnon Gynydd Common.

To celebrate the closing stages of summer, this ride will test the fitness you have built up during the proceeding months. Sunnybank is a proper cycling challenge and some may have to dismount and walk up the steeper sections! You will need to have a good level of cycling fitness and be competent handling your bicycle.

This route is challenging, with at least one big climb. After the main climb, it’s not so gently undulating with some steep downhill sections. The country lanes can be pot holed and gravely in places but with careful riding, these sections can be avoided.

Plenty of opportunity to stop en-route to catch your breath and have a drink and enjoy the views.

Please bring a well-maintained bicycle, wear a helmet, gloves and appropriate clothing for the weather. It will be cooler as we climb to the top of the route. Always carry a windproof/waterproof lightweight jacket. Remember also to bring a drink, snack, a spare tube, puncture repair kit, lock and pump if you have them and bring some money for refreshments. We intend to finish the ride before it gets dark but please bring some lights if you have them.

We cycle, we chat, we laugh and never leave anyone behind!
