Jumping onto the towpath we will head down the towpath to the Boat House where we will come off and head up Victoria Road over the canal and cut through Salts Mill and follow the road to the traffic lights, we will turn left at the roundabout, then right onto Dockfield Road for half a mile, join the towpath for the short section to Buck mill lane swing bridge, drop down the trail over the river, turn right and follow the path coming out at the Old Barn in Esholt (there is an alternative route if you don’t want to ride across the field)
Heading into Esholt we will cut up the path beside the Woolpack onto the road then trail through Esholt woods, turning left at the end onto Gill Lane up to Yeadon, where we will cross the road onto Henshaw and pick up the greenway
Skirting round Silverdales, across the main road and onto Back lane. Coming out on Otley road we will head to the cafe stop Twenty8 (under the Wetherby Whaler).
Return route
Turning left out of the Wetherby Whaler up to the roundabout, turning right and along Bradford road to the top of Hollins Hill where we will turn left and right onto Old Hollins Hill, dropping back down into Esholt and picking up the route we started on.
If riders are uncomfortable about going down Old Hollins Hill we can retrace part of the route to the greenway and cut through the Westfield estate back to Gill Lane and return to Esholt.
This is a steady ride but great to home in short sections of road and one climb.
A route to Yeadon and Guiseley, great practice for short sections of road and one hill
If riders wish there is a new 2 mile loop around the old High Royds Hospital
A towpath, trail and road ride
Twenty8 Guiseley
Pennies for a caffeine stop and sweet treat, spare inner tube, bike pump and levers, hand sanitizer, face mask and wipes
