Copped Hall is a fine Georgian mansion that is currently under restoration. It is superbly sited on a ridge overlooking its landscaped parkland. The mansion is visible from the M25 which passes through a corner of the park. The mansion and gardens are situated on a site of ancient human habitation. Important buildings were demolished when the present mansion was built. Copped Hall is easily accessible by bike from Epping Forest and this is what we will be doing on this ride. We meet at Cutty Sark Gardens and start by cycling up the Regents Canal to the View Tube. We then follow a section of the Dunwich Dynamo route which takes us into Epping Forest. There is a cycle path in the heart of the forest which takes us past High Beach and up to Copped Hall, which is holding is annual Apple Day. We stay there for a couple of hours (entry costs £10) to walk round the stalls, visit the house and extensive gardens and have lunch. We then return by cycling across to the Warlies, Upshire and Waltham Abbey before following the Lee Valley towpath back to Cutty Sark Gardens.
