A steady and long ride crossing to the South of the Thames to enjoy the completely segregated Wandle Trail until Morden Hall Park, returning through Wimbledon Park. Although the southern side of the ride is through safe and quiet roads or paths, crossing the river on both directions require confidence positioning and negotiating with road traffic, so this is not a ride for beginners. Despite the steady pace, we need to slow down at the shared paths and take short breaks throughout the route, so expect a long day. We aim to be back at Roundwood Park by 4pm.
We start our journey through Wormwood Scrubs and crossing under the Westway to West Kensington and Fulham until we reach Wandsworth Bridge. Here the traffic is heavy and there’s no segregated bike lane, but as soon as we cross the bridge, we make use of pedestrian crossings to take us to Wandsworth where we join the most northern part of the Wandle Trail. We continue through the trail, with the exception of a couple of very short detours through quiet roads near Earlsfield and Colliers Wood, until we are at Morden Hall Park, where we stop for a coffee break.
On our way back, we use the Wandle Trail once more for a small section and divert into quiet roads of South Wimbledon taking us to Wimbledon Park, where we take a short detour before carrying on in the direction of the Thames, crossing Putney Bridge and going along Bishop’s Park and Hammersmith until we join the cycle lane on the A40 Western Avenue.
