This ride is a mixture of well maintained canal paths, cycle paths and roads. It also mixes long stretches of flat riding plus some hill work mainly on the return journey. It starts in St Helens at Sherdley Park a lovely open green space to the side of the municipal golf club. There is free parking that can be accessed from either Elton Head Road or Sherdley road.
The ride takes us through parks and B roads to the Sankey Valley trail which is part of the trans Pennine Trail. A lovely well maintained trail where you can see an abundance of wild life.
We then hit the roads again passing HMP Risley and onto the cafe stop The fishing Lakes cafe.
We return going through Croft and Newton le Willows before coming back into St Helens via the scenic paths of “The Dream Park” rejuvenated land where Sutton Manor Colliery once stood.
This ride can be done on any bike with a note of caution for road bikes there are a few gravel paths. We will be riding at a leisurely pace of about 10mph.
All Covid safety guidelines will be followed please ensure all your details are completed on Let’s Ride. Bring wipes, sanitiser, mask as required. Make sure you bring a spare inner tube and your bike is in good working order and you have a helmet
