Starting point

Swansea
SA2 8PR

We start by cycling along the traffic-free Swansea sea front to Mumbles, then follow a usually quiet road through Bracelet Bay, uphill along Plunch Lane, and downhill to Caswell Beach. Another climb from Caswell Bay takes us through Bishopston and to another hill at Kittle. From kittle we head briefly North onto the South Gower Road, turning off at the first opportunity to the quieter Hen Parc Lane, we we will stop at the Wildflower Cafe. From there, a ride through Clyne Common takes us back to the South Gower Road briefly, then onto the traffic free Clyne Valley Path to return to the Singleton Campus.

We never leave anyone behind: the length of the route (25 km) and the several steep hills (around 250 m ascent) means that the route is suitable only for fairly regular riders but we will take our time, stay together, and ride a comfortable pace for everyone.

We will carry out a brief safety check before beginning the ride, but riders are advised to carry out their own check beforehand. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBKeNOBwaVE for an example routine. There are several steep downhills, so please be especially sure that you have effective front and rear brakes and tyres in good condition, and wear a helmet. There are also several steep uphills, so the Santander hire bikes will not be suitable.
